Simon de la Rosa Flores was a painter and decorator known for the fine detailing of costumes and jewelries in his portraiture, and is widely considered to be the first native Filipino to win an international award for his art.  In 1876 he received a silver medal at the Philadelphia Universal Exposition for his painting, “La Musica del Pueblo.”
